A two-year letterwinner at Sage, Joanie Cooney has already established herself on the court for the Gators.

As a sophomore setter she continued to dominate the setting assist statistic in 2011 after she led both Sage and the Skyline Conference with her 892 assists, while her per game average of 7.50 ranks third in the league. A candidate for the Capital One-CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last year, she is already No. 4 on Sage’s career list as she now has 1,451 in 65 career matches played. She added 74 kills and 266 digs in 2011 with 36 aces.

She capped her sophomore season by earning the Coaches' Award after also serving as a team captain. As a rookie, she was named the team's Rookie of the Year after also earning weekly honors as the league's rookie of the week and several player of the week honor roll citations.

A volleyball team captain at Shenendehowa, she was the squad's MVP after also earning back-to-back All-Tournament Team Honors. The recipient of the Shenendehowa Physical Education Award, she was a National Honor Society Student and earned her Advanced Regents Diploma.

At Sage, she is also involved with SAAC and is a Sage Scholar-Athlete Honoree. She is active as a tutor for the Peer Tutoring club. A Dean's List Student, she is a psychology pre-med major.
